The commonest indications in children are repeated episodes of tonsillitis, (3 to 5 times per year) and snoring. There are no strict criteria for numbers, it depends also on severity, age, and response to treatment.

Upper airway obstruction with snoring including a blocked runny nose – is usually easily treated by removing the tonsils and adenoids.

Other indications are Halitosis with tonsil stones, recurring abdominal pain, chronic ear disease, and febrile convulsions.
