SYMPTOMS:

The child will present with hoarseness, stridor and airway obstruction.  These symptoms often mimic asthma, croup and bronchitis.

Clinically, the diagnosis is made via a flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscope.

MANAGEMENT:

Surgery whether it be elective or as an emergency is the mainstay of treatment.  The surgery is usually Endolaryngeal with aid of a laser, Microdebrider, Coblator or just with cup forceps.  The surgery, especially in children, needs to be repeated sometimes a few times a year and even up to the age of 20.  A Tracheostomy should be avoided at all costs.  Obviously during surgery, a biopsy is taken to confirm the diagnosis.
